Mary composes and performs jazz, contemporary music, songwriting, and indie music. Her main influences include Fiona Apple, Samora Pinderhughes, Esperanza Spalding, Maddison Cunningham, Sarah Elizabeth Charles, and Wayne Shorter.

Past These Walls draws inspiration from cross-genre influences to create a sensitive, radically honest, and distinctive sound. Mary Rose Cowden’s album tells a story of transcending limitations and re-emerging with hopeful resilience, embodying feelings of self-love, agency, and empowerment. Mary produced, wrote, and performed vocals, saxophone, flute, clarinet, bass, and piano on Past These Walls.

Three singles from Past These Walls entitled “Relapse,”“song from a dream” and “Thoughts Can Curse” are on all streaming platforms!

Mary has performed throughout Europe and North America playing jazz on the stages of Newport Jazz Festival, Jazz Festival of Bern Switzerland, and Smalls Jazz Club and touring other genres stopping at The Echo (LA), The Sinclair (MA), and Pleasantville Music Festival (NY).
